You’re getting married..yay! The excitement has now passed and the nervousness has kicked in. There is so much to do, and so little time (which is why we highly recommend booking a wedding planner as soon as you can to ensure the best one isn’t booked for your date), and in between all that you need to start getting into shape to look AMAZING on your big day. You may want to shed a few pounds, tone up, or even put on a bit of weight.
Whatever your goal, don’t go into overdrive at the gym or starve yourself. You need to maintain that bridal glow and the best way to ensure this, is to enjoy whatever you do and most of all BE HAPPY. So, if like us you hate hitting the gym, here are a few fun ways you can get into great shape for your wedding:
1. Unleash your inner Bollywood heroine
Indian weddings are all about the song and dance (not the ceremony itself but the pre and post celebrations are). Why not get your siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles and round up the neighbours and whoever else and learn a choreographed routine for your Sangeet? It will be so much fun, will get you into shape (because you need regular practices to perfect your moves) and at the same time will give you a chance to spend quality time with your nearest and dearest. We’ve actually assisted some of our brides with their choreographed routines so if you need a hand don’t be shy to ask!
2. Master your first dance
Maybe the idea of doing a full on Bollywood routine at your Sangeet is too much, in which case you can do something else. How about enrolling onto a dance class with your other half to perfect your first dance? Not only will you end up looking spectacular when you take to the floor on the day, but it will give you a chance to spend time some time with him in between the wedding-planning madness. It’s a win-win.
3. Enjoy some active (hen) weekends
You’re going to want to organise a fun hen day or weekend. Some brides opt for more than one because she’s lucky to have so many amazing people in her life (you know how large Indian families are). So, in between a relaxing spa, or fun-filled night out, why not mix in something a little active? You could try something sexy like pole dancing, something more hard-core like rock climbing or something that’s full of surprises like a treasure hunt. You’ll be giggling away as you shed those calories.
4. Learn to cook (well)
There are so many cuisines across South Asia which means we’re lucky when it comes to our food. We can have tasty, nutritious meals that are quick and easy to prepare. So instead of family nights out, flip this on its head and spend family nights in. Spend time with the good cooks in your house; your mum, dad, aunts and uncles and learn their authentic dishes. Eating some healthy ‘ghar ka khaana’ will mean you won’t be pilling on any unnecessary pounds (providing you limit the ghee and load up on the veggies). Oh, and let’s not forget your future husband will be thankful.
5. Wedding shopping
Perhaps the most of them all! With so many functions taking place, you’re going to need plenty of outfits, jewellery and shoes to match. Let’s not even get started on all the other accessories. Whether you’ll be shopping in the UK, or whisking off to India there will be plenty of walking. Instead of driving around try and walk wherever you can and though it can get tiring, actually holding on to those shopping bags is not a bad thing as it will help you tone those arms. Did you know that according to one survey, women can burn around 5 calories for every minute spent browsing the shelves?
6. Prep for the honeymoon
Of course you’ll be looking forward to the honeymoon and will ideally be going somewhere with plenty of sun and sand. However, have you thought about combining this with something more active? Maybe you could do a bike tour, or go skiing, or even get ready for some hiking. If you’re doing any of the above you will probably need to get some practice in beforehand which is the perfect excuse to do some added exercise. Rope in your other half as he’ll want to be looking his best too.
