Picking a wedding supplier is a tough job, which is why so many brides and groom rely on us (as wedding planners) to point them in the right direction. But, for those of you who perhaps don’t have your very own planners to turn to for advice, it’s essential to listen to the experiences of other couples that have recently got married.
We’ve mentioned it many times before but Indian weddings are not cheap, so when you’re spending so much money it only makes sense that you select the right photographer to document your big day. Your wedding day photography is something you’ll always look back on, whether it be your first wedding anniversary or your 40th, which means it’s definitely money worth spending. But the question is; how do you know you’re spending it with the right company?
We got in touch with real life bride Meera Puntambekar who tied the knot with hubby Sagar at the Oshwal Centre last August, with a reception to follow, who believes she got it right with her team. So here are her top bridal tips for selecting the right wedding photographer:
For me, service was absolutely key! You should always work with somebody who you can rely on and we were lucky enough to work with a photographer who was able to answer any questions we had via WhatsApp, FaceTime and email, as well as face to face. But it’s not just the service leading up to the wedding day that we were impressed with, our photographer looked after us really well post the big day and continues to remain a good friend of ours.
We wanted to work with someone who was calm, in control and reliable. From our initial meeting with Kam we knew he would be the right person for us. Throughout the civil, wedding and reception events, him and his team didn’t just feel like wedding suppliers, they felt like family. Not only did they know exactly what they were doing photography-wise but they also did a great job directing our guests and making children smile during any shots. Everyone was at complete ease and we managed to get all the photos we’d previously discussed.
You need to feel comfortable with the people you’re entrusting with your wedding day and have complete peace of mind. I knew I made the right decision when one of the photography team came up to my room while I was getting ready in the morning just to check that I was okay. He even put some music on so that I would feel less nervous. It was such a lovely gesture, something I’ll always remember and it helped get the day off to a great start.
It’s important to note that great quality comes at a slightly higher price tag so you should budget for this from the start. Not only did our team take some wonderful pictures, they painted a beautiful story which we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. We can’t wait to share the images with friends, family and maybe even our children one day.
A good photographer will respect your wishes, friends and family and we know that Kam and his team had this covered from day one. But the extra confidence in his work came from knowing that he is well respected amongst his own industry peers. This is important when it comes to choosing any supplier, not just a photographer, as if someone is generally liked and appreciated for their work and efforts then it means they’re doing something right time and time again.
